Enugu State marked a major milestone in Nigeria’s aviation sector today as Enugu Air, the state-owned airline, officially commenced domestic flight operations at Akanu Ibiam International Airport.

The launch event, attended by Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and other dignitaries, signals the government’s ambition to position Enugu as a leading aviation hub.

Governor Peter Mbah described Enugu Air as a vital part of his administration’s vision for a modern, integrated transport system. “With innovation, sustainability, and state pride at the core, Enugu Air will redefine air travel and boost our regional economy,” said Dr. Obi Ozor, Commissioner for Transportation.

The airline begins service with three Embraer jets two E170s and one E190 selected for their comfort, efficiency, and adaptability to Nigeria’s domestic routes. Initial flights will connect Enugu with Abuja and Lagos, forming a “golden triangle” of air travel, with plans to expand to Port Harcourt, Owerri, Benin, Kano, and other strategic cities.

Enugu Air’s launch is expected to drive economic growth, create jobs, and increase tourism in the southeast. Stakeholders believe the airline will provide more travel options and raise Enugu’s profile both nationally and globally.

With its modern fleet and strategic network, Enugu Air is set to revolutionize regional air travel and put Enugu at the heart of Nigeria’s aviation industry.
